Executive Mayor Alderman Ray van Rooy tabled Bergrivier Municipality’s final 2026/2027 Budget during a Council Meeting held at the municipal head offices in Piketberg on 26 May 2026.
The proposed budget focuses on sustainable service delivery, infrastructure investment, job creation and continued support to vulnerable households, despite ongoing economic challenges facing local government.
The Municipality’s proposed budget consists of an Operational Income Budget of R716,911 million, an Operational Expenditure Budget of R718,123 million and a Capital Budget of R118,707 million, with major investments directed towards water and roads infrastructure projects.
During his address, the Executive Mayor highlighted the Municipality’s achievement of ten consecutive clean audits, its national recognition for maintaining a fully funded budget over the past decade, and the Municipality’s continued commitment to responsible governance and financial sustainability.
Proposed tariff increases from 1 July 2026 include adjustments to water, electricity, refuse removal, sewerage and property rates.
The Mayor also announced proposed additional relief measures for qualifying pensioners and vulnerable households.
