Published: 24 Oct 2017Title: WATER RESTRICTIONS IMPLEMENTED FROM 13 DECEMBER 2018.Status: Bergrivier Municipality has since 13 December 2018 implemented Level 3 Water Restrictions (25%) until further notice. All water users are required to use no more than 105 litres of municipal drinking water per person per day in total irrespective of whether you are at home, work or elsewhere.
Municipal drinking water may be used before 09:00 or after 18:00 for water purposes. We encourage residents to flush toilets with non-potable water (e.g. grey water or rainwater). Sprinklers are allowed, on condition that they are strictly managed to keep the water usage as low as possible. Swimming pools may be filled with municipal drinking water, on condition that ‘backwash water’ gets recycled and where it is practically possible, to use rainwater to fill up the pool. Vehicles, trailers and boats may only be washed with drinking water if a bucket is used. Washing vehicles with non-potable water or cleaning with waterless products or using dry cleaning processes is strongly encouraged. Commercial Car Wash businesses may use municipal drinking water if the business’s best practice standards for water conservation are met which includes recycling at least 50% of the water used. Water and sanitation tariffs will be reduced accordingly.
